Steele and Storm spent as much time as possible in each other’s minds over the next few days, sharing not only stories from their pasts, but also allowing themselves to dream of a future without the General someday, where they would be free to be together. For some reason, the scientists were leaving them alone, until one morning Storm awoke to the sound of her door opening. Rolling over, she squinted in the dim light, barely making out the image of a guard standing just inside her room.
“Ms. Beal wants you,” was all he said.
Storm cringed at the thought of being anywhere near that woman again, but she slowly slipped her legs over the side of the cot and stood. Not bothering to respond, she walked out of the door in front of him and down the hall toward the Hell Pit. She wondered what was in the plans for the day. Did they need more blood? Maybe they wanted to cut off some more of her fucking skin. That was always a laugh and a half.
Storm barely made it inside the door of the Hell Pit, when she knew today was going to be way different than any other day. There was a tray of surgical tools placed on the counter, just a few feet from the table, and the floor around it was layered with plastic. It would seem the good scientists did not want to make a mess on their floor. This was going to royally suck.
“Strip,” Ms. Beal demanded as she brushed by her to walk out the door. Over her shoulder, she told the guard, “I want her naked and on the table by the time I get back.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” he said politely, even though Storm knew he wanted nothing more than to knock the highhanded look off the woman’s face. Muttering to himself, he pushed Storm toward the table with the baton he always carried around with him.
Storm’s eyes connected with Amber’s frightened ones as she slowly slid her pants down her thighs to kick them off as instructed. I am so sorry.
Storm froze in shock when Amber’s small voice reached her. She’d had no idea the girl was psychic in any way. The girl managed to hide it well. What are they going to do to me? She asked the question, not really wanting to know the answer.
Tears filled Amber’s eyes, and she whispered, Run! You need to get out of here, Storm. You have to escape, now!
Her eyes widened at the scientist’s words, and she swung around quickly, catching the guard in the head with her fist. Bolting for the door, she almost made it before she felt the electric shock hit her from the stun gun the guard now held in his hand. “Where do you think you’re going?” he laughed, as she fell to the ground, curling up into a small ball as the pain raced through her entire body. He must have had the damn thing set to full power, because it hurt like a bitch.
